Hello from Karin!
Young Swedish Design has a power and energy that inspires and strives to bring about change. With craftsmanship and a sense for materials, on show here is the latest in young Swedish design and creativity. Young Swedish Design is an annual award assessed by a panel of judges, and a touring exhibition that aims to increase and broaden knowledge about young, innovative Swedish design. Young Swedish Design highlights the need to create and explore freely, without having to adapt to the market. Young Swedish Design serves an important purpose as a forum where encounters between designers, producers and audiences arise. The award stimulates cross-border projects, and does not therefore divide the entries into categories. Several working scholarships are awarded to selected designers who particularly distinguish themselves. The exhibition tours both in Sweden and abroad. The project was started in 1998 on the initiative of Svensk Form – the Swedish Society of Crafts and Design, and Form/Design Center in Malmö. Many of the designers who have taken part previously are now well established in their particular fields.
Young Swedish Design 2021 is a co-production between Svensk Form (the Swedish Society of Crafts and Design) and IKEA Museum, in association with Kulturhuset Stadsteatern (Stockholm House of Culture & City Theatre) and the City of Malmö.
The Young Swedish Design 2021 scholarships are awarded by Arvet, Ericsson, IKEA of Sweden, Kvadrat, Lammhults Möbel, Massive Entertainment, and The Swedish Leather and Fur Industry Foundation.
